Changquan is a general term for about a dozen similar wushu styes.
Changquan typically features low wide stances as well as quick and
powerful movements. It consists of both slow and fast movements and
many high jumps, which require flexibility, speed and the precise application
of strength and power. Changquan is suitable for youngsters and is
effective for developing speed, strength and flexibility.
Nanquan originated in southern China, and it is divided into several
styles. Nanquan stances feature a low centre of gravitya. It does not
have so many jumps, but the arm movements are extremely powerful and
fast. Powerful shouting techniques are also an important ingredient.
Nanquan has influenced several Japanese martial arts, particularly
karate-do.
